According to the footage I saw, the shooting is unjustified and the cop should be prosecuted and decision left to jury. You can’t shoot someone with a weapon unless there is a threat to life and in the footage the weapon was not pointed at the officer nor was there a threatening action observed in my mind.

My thing against Joc is what his team did caused major fall out for regular units throughout Iraq. Hindsight, now I know why my sector saw an uptick insurgent attacks. Retribution. Normally, we did not know what each sector was doing. We focused primarily on our own daily operations, while Battalion focused on the bigger picture. Many times, we would get hit up for support of various Special Tier Units. To do a coordinate mission or overwatch. When Units did not call in before entering our sector, it did cause problems. The majority did call in or stop by to give us a brief if there was a major op. The Commmand wanted fewer chances of Blue on Blue action. Also, to reduce any misunderstanding with local militas or trusted Iraqi leadership.

Civil cases are supposed to come after criminal cases for the simple fact that the burden of proof is so much smaller in a civil case. Civil court gives a shit ton more leeway than criminal court does. And like you guys said a juror in a criminal case is gonna look at a defendant as if they must have done something wrong because they lost the civil case.

I think you forget the cop went to the door and listened he didnt hear any confrontation going on in the apartment at that time he should of evaluated that the call was not as bad as he was told. Also he never gave the airman a chance to drop anything. Also he stepped out of the way of the peephole and so how was the airman to identify him as law enforcement. Come on guys yall saw the video this cop was terrified and immediately started shooting as soon as he saw a gun pointed at the ground. And last remember Derek Choven was doing what is exactly in the training manual when it came to George Floyd and he went down for murder. I think this cop was so scared he should have never put a badge on. If just seeing a gun is the criteria to kill someone then game wardens would be mowing down people on the daily. This guy shouldnt have been a cop. I think there should be an investigation into this police department because why are the officers so petrified of guns to the point one cop thinks a acorn is shots fired and then the other cop starts blasting as soon as he sees a gun!! Sounds like bad training going on in that department. Makes both cops in both situations look like the biggest coawards out there. IMO!

For those that don’t know, this is a pretty iffy story with high profiles on both sides, one side generally believes he was a hard ass stickler who pushed his guys to their braking point, sometimes for less than reasonable reasons but for the most part he was a good dude who served our nation at the highest degree, the other side generally believes the unit went above and beyond to get a toxic man out of power and be charged for his crime he committed in those foreign lands. Personally, I feel a bit of both are true, there has to be some type of accidental stray hitting a civilian or something, it is entirely possible a group of guys don’t want you in a group and find away to get you out (I almost got sharped for doing hip rotations next to a woman who worked in our S1 shop, within a week she was transferred and never spoken of or heard about again) EO and SHARP are the two most common ways to do it, but this is either vengeful for some type of abuse or disrespect or is some type of stupid shit that shouldn’t have been public and now that it is has been blown so out of proportion no one can remember what the lies are and the truth is.

Over the last couple of years, home invaders have been claiming to be law enforcement. This has become such a significant problem that news outlets have taken the time to discuss this tactic. Truth be told, if someone comes pounding on my door claiming to be law enforcement, and I can't verify visually that they are law enforcement, I will not be without a way to defend myself and my family. I don't give a sh*t who you claim to be...If I can't verify your identity, you are a threat.

The sticky part is it was the wrong door, the Police had 3 Karen's, he only spoke to two Karen's, he never spoke to the original Karen who called the cops who said she heard a couple physically fighting, the Airmen was home alone with his girlfriend on the phone, so who was he beating up? He never raised his gun, I know its a shitty situation but the Police Officer should have told him to drop the gun, from the video I seen he pretty shot him on the spot. Mistakes were made on both sides, the Airmen shouldn't have brought a gun to the door and the cop shouldn't shot him right away, there actually needs to be an investigation into the Karen's who called the police in the first place because it was not Apartment 407 making the noise.

Right or wrong if someone is knocking at your door, saying its the police - either call 9-11 and confirm its the police before deciding to open the door, don't open the door or open the door unarmed. That cop could have been on shift for 18 hours pumped up with caffeine and tales of ambushes and death around every corner, or juiced to the max who knows. But at the end of the day the airmen died because he opened the door with a gun in his hand. Comply and survive, let a lawyer handle it later or role the dice.
